Theatre Arts I (Grades 9-12, 5 credits) is a basic introductory course and concentrates on the basics of dramatics in terms of theatre mechanics, speech introduction, and play construction. Activities include readings, presentation of oral exercises, participation in dramatic performances and analysis of the same. In the first year, students work to stimulate and develop imagination, spontaneity, creative risk-taking, responsiveness, ensemble skills, and problem solving. For the objectives and proficiencies of this course to be fully achieved by the individual student, all theatre students are strongly expected to devote some time outside of the classroom to the activities of this course. This course is offered as dual credit with Atlantic-Cape Community College and Stockton University.
Theatre Arts I Greek Theatre Performance of Oedipus Rex (2022)
Theatre Arts II (Grades 10-12, 5 credits) is a developmental course which builds upon skills and knowledge from Theatre Arts I. Emphasis will be on interpreting drama, producing drama, and the fundamentals of play production while developing and reinforcing the skills introduced in Theatre Arts I, including vocal skills, acting and improvisation. Musical theatre will be introduced as well as a more in-depth study of character analysis. For the objectives and accomplishments of this course to be fully achieved by the individual student, all theatre students are strongly expected to devote some time outside of the classroom to the activities of this course. This course is offered as dual credit with Atlantic-Cape Community College and Stockton University. Prerequisite(s): Theatre Arts I or Permission of Instructor
Theatre Arts II Touring Children's Production of Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon at Egg Harbor City Community School (2023)
Honors Theatre Arts III (Grades 11-12, 5 credits) In this advanced-level, performance-based course, students will be exposed to advanced acting techniques and styles, complex group scene work, American drama, directing for the stage, and theatrical research, critique, and dramaturgy. To demonstrate advanced mastery of the skills of the course, students will be required to create a director’s prompt book complete with theatrical design and directorial elements. Students enrolled in this course will participate in the organization and performance of a theatrical production. For the objectives and advanced mastery of this course to be fully achieved by the individual student, all theatre students are expected to devote some time outside of the classroom to the activities of this course. Honors Theatre Arts III Devised Theatre Performance (2021)
Honors Theatre Arts IV (Grade 12, 5 credits) In This is an advanced-level performance course designed to continue the study of theatrical and production skills gained in Theatre Arts I, II, and Honors Theatre Arts III. Through a group ensemble, students will continue to study advanced acting techniques, improvisation skills, directing, scene study, and elements of theatre production. Students enrolled in this course will participate in the organization and performance of a theatrical production. For the objectives and advanced mastery of this course to be fully achieved by the individual student, all theatre students are expected to devote some time outside of the classroom to the activities of this course. Prerequisite(s): Theatre Arts I, Theatre Arts II, Honors Theatre Arts III, and/or Permission of Instructor
